What is the purpose of the road safety audit in 2024?

The purpose of the road safety audit is to ensure and increase the safety of traffic on public roads, to prevent loss of life and injury to persons and to avoid material damage as a result of traffic accidents, by detailed, technical and systematic independent verification of the safety of design features at all stages from planning to the start of operation.

Safety auditors are experts in the field of transport infrastructure engineering appointed by the Romanian Road Authority, they are road engineers or road policemen with at least 10 years’ experience in the field.

Road safety audits being a proactive approach, they identify potential safety problems at an early stage of the design process, eliminate some design or execution errors, improve traffic conditions by checking designs and road construction elements.

The audit checks the elements of the road that contribute to comfort during the journey, with the aim of eliminating stress and thus reducing the risk of road accidents.
